Recently, Luke Stiles, our Sales Director sat down to share a bit more about his role at TSR Select, the work he does, and what he enjoys doing in his time away from work.

1) What is your role at TSR Select?

My role at TSR is Sales Director. I manage the team here and do day-to-day recruitment. I have been at TSR for 13 years.

I spend my time engaging with candidates and clients in the IT sector, with my specialist area being IT sales and technical candidates working in Manage Services, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, and Technology aaS (as a service).

2) What is your background and previous work experience?

Prior to working in IT recruitment for TSR, I worked in a sales role within the fine wine investment industry and also within recruitment for an HR and payroll solutions company. I graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Politics in 2009.

3) What interested you in working in IT recruiting?

I love that the IT recruitment landscape is always changing and evolving. Plus, it's a pretty bullet-proof sector. We've survived two recessions and COVID since I've been here!

4) How do you help clients and candidates?

I always aim to find genuine, good matches that fulfil the client's needs, while helping IT job candidates achieve their goals. It sounds simple, but it's amazing how many recruitment consultants and IT recruitment agencies are just happy to do deals.

I am always reminded of an Alex Ferguson quote where he said, "Don't come to Manchester United for the money. If you do well at Manchester United, the money will follow." I believe in IT sales and technical recruitment that if you aim to do a good job, you'll make enough placements, and make enough money!

5) What does your typical day look like?

One of my main daily responsibilities is to help our IT recruitment consultants upskill and provide the best service to our clients and candidates. I also spend much of my day using our recruitment resources to engage with candidates in the IT sectors that we serve and connecting them with clients. Finally, I am often speaking to or meeting with clients. Nowadays this includes a lot of Teams meetings.

6) What do you like most about your job?

Every day is different. Every candidate has a different story, experience, and career goals. Every company has a unique culture and hiring needs. IT recruitment can be lots of things, but it's never boring!

7) What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I'm a newlywed and father to a 3 month old baby so my usual hobbies (football, golf, gym) have all taken a backseat recently!

8) Finally, can you share one fun, unknown fact about you?

I was named after Luke Goss from Bros. Luckily, I'm not a twin!
